Seabirds detoxify mercury ingested in their diet
Naturally highly exposed to methylmercury, top predators of high trophic level had to evolve to counteract the effects of this powerful neurotoxic. Thus, seabirds are able to detoxify methylmercury with selenium. This is what researchers from LIENSs and CEBC have studied with laboratories in Nantes and Grenoble.
